Bucks County, Pennsylvania Inmate Search

An inmate search in Bucks County simply means checking official custody records to find out if a person is being held in jail. The primary jail facility in the county is the Bucks County Correctional Facility. The facility is managed by the Department of Corrections (DOC), rather than the Sheriff’s Office, unlike in some counties in other states. The Sheriff’s Office in Bucks County is usually responsible for arrests and the transfer of individuals to the facility, but the DOC oversees actual jail operations.

Individuals who conduct an inmate search often do not just find information confirming an inmate’s presence in jail. They may also find details on the person’s arrest, the offense(s) they were charged with, and bond information, if applicable.

How to Find an Inmate in Bucks County Jail

The primary way the public can locate an inmate in the Bucks County Correctional Facility is through the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) Lookup provided by the Corrections Division. The system is accessed via phone and provides callers with basic information about the inmate’s detention. Individuals may also visit the Bucks County Correctional Facility in person to inquire about an inmate.

To obtain more detailed information or reports about an inmate, such as medical files or disciplinary logs, individuals may get the inmate (current or former) to submit the DOC-LD Form 1 to the Correctional Facility’s Records Department in person. A Form 1A may be submitted in place of Form 1 if the inmate is physically unable to complete Form 1. Such detailed reports are not released without the inmate’s consent.

How to Use the Bucks County Jail Roster

The Bucks County Correctional Facility generally makes its jail roster available to the public in person or through the Interactive Voice Response Lookup system. Unlike some counties, Bucks County does not present its jail roster on an online portal. Individuals can access the IVR Lookup system by calling (267) 915-4072. Callers will be prompted to provide the name of the inmate they want to inquire about. Information disclosed via the system is usually basic details about the inmate, not a comprehensive report.

What Information is Included in the Bucks County Inmate Roster

The Bucks County inmate/jail roster generally contains identifying information about an inmate and their custodial information. Commonly found information includes

Jail Facility Overview in Bucks County

The Bucks County Department of Corrections operates a centralized correctional campus. The facility is a large-scale jail system designed for short-term incarceration (sentences under two years) and pre-trial arrestees. The jail consists of three distinct housing areas: the Main Correctional Facility, the Women’s Correctional Facility, and the Men’s Community Corrections Center.

The Main Correctional Facility, which opened in 1985, is the central receiving location for all individuals committed to the jail. The facility receives over 7,432 inmates annually and houses medium to maximum-security classified inmates. There are also about 752 bunks available to house these inmates.

The Women’s Correctional Facility was established in 2023 and has a capacity of 304 beds. The facility was created to house the female population, including those eligible for work release exclusively, allowing the jail to better cater to their needs. Several programs are provided to inmates in the facility, including education, drug and alcohol, religious, medical, and mental health programs.

The Men’s Community Corrections Center opened earlier than the Women’s Correctional Facility in 1991 and replaced the original Rehabilitation Center, which was opened in 1963. The facility houses the male population alone and houses up to 270 inmates. It is also a minimum-security facility focused on the Work Release Program, allowing eligible inmates to be employed in the community during the day.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

All inmates in Bucks County are housed in the Bucks County Correctional Facility, as there are no separate jails operated by city police departments. Inmates may be housed in the Main Correctional Facility, the Women’s Correctional Facility, or the Men’s Community Corrections Center, but they are ultimately under the supervision of the Department of Corrections.

Members of the public can locate an inmate at the facility using the Interactive Voice Response Lookup system. Individuals may also inquire in person at the correctional facility’s Records Office. To locate an inmate’s record, requesters must provide the inmate’s name or jail ID number.

Processing begins in the lobby, where all visitors are screened before entering. Individuals should confirm that they are on the inmate’s approved list before visiting, or they will be denied access. Inquiries about such matters should be made to the inmate, not to the jail staff. Inmates are permitted a maximum of two visitors at a time, with those under 16 requiring a legal guardian to accompany them. Visitors aged 16 to 18 still need their guardian’s approval, even if they visit alone.

General Visitation Rules

  • Visitors must remain in their assigned seats unless instructed otherwise.
  • Visitors must dress appropriately while going to the facility (see prohibited clothing).
  • Visitors should not attempt to carry any items into the lobby aside from their ID and keys.
  • Visitors should neither pass nor receive anything from inmates.
  • Visitors should not attempt to bring contraband into the facility.

Failure to follow these rules can lead to the termination of an individual’s visiting privileges. Also, attempting to introduce contraband into the facility may result in prosecution. Under 18 Pa.C.S. § 5123, such an act may be punished with a prison sentence of 2 years minimum and 10 years maximum.

Additionally, inmates can receive video visitation for a fee set by the third-party provider. The provider also handles visitor setup and scheduling.

Mailing and Commissary Information

Individuals outside jail can send mail to inmates in the correctional facility. Personal mail is not received directly at the facility; individuals must first send the mail to a scanning center in the prescribed format. Mail that may be sent directly to the jail facility is legal mail, money orders, reading material, and publications. Such mail should be sent in this format:

Bucks County Department of Corrections

Inmate Name, BCP #

1730 South Easton Road

Doylestown, PA 18901

Publications or books must be sent directly from the publisher or bookstore, or they may be returned. Individuals should also ensure that none of the prohibited items listed on the Department of Corrections Mail and Messaging page are present in the mail.

Money orders sent to the facility are deposited into the inmate’s commissary account, which they can use to make necessary purchases.
